Next to a Gurgler this is one of the most effective surface flies I've ever fished for trout and bass.

Tied on relatively heavy hooks, these buggy flies are designed to float low in the water or just slightly under the surface. They imitate nothing in particular but lots of edibles in general. A terrific "searching" pattern when you don't know what else to use.
