Krill Cluster Fly Krill appear in large masses throughout the summer in many waters and when stripers are feeding on krill they'll drift along with them and lazily slurp them in until stuffed. Krill-feeding stripers can sometimes be difficult to take; at times it seems as if they're swimming along with their mouths open and their eyes closed and refuse just about anything thrown at them.

This is one fly, though, that I've used with a lot of success in these situations. Tied to imitate not one tiny krill but rather a cluster of krill, this simple fly has saved many a day for me. If one fly doesn't tempt them, two often will, the second one tied as a dropper. Another trick to use on krill-feeding fish is to attach one of these flies to the bend of a Gurgler with about a 6" lead and use the Gurgler to attract attention to the krill fly. Sometimes they'll hit one; sometimes the other. Either way you fish it, you'll have more success than many other anglers who are tearing their hair out wondering what to do next.
