The flies on this page are all Gartside originals, designed by Jack. When he was alive each fly Jack sold he tied himself, to order. With his passing his flies are sadly no longer available for sale. What remains and what you'll find here is his porfolio, hopefully to encourage and inspire both current and future tyers. As time and information allows, we'll expand these listings with dressings and notes.

While designed for the Big Four of northeast salt water gamefish, the streamers in this section work for many other species as well—tarpon, snook, jacks, sea trout—you name it, these patterns have caught it.
These flies seem to swim on their own. Just right when the fish are more selective than usual.
Patterns developed using GSS Gartside's Secret Stuff. These unique flies combine realism and action to tempt the finickiest fish.
Hackles of blood marabou give these flies their tantalizing action. Great for "searching" and dead-drifting. The BeastMaster General is the big fish fly.
The Gurgler has established a place as one of the the most popular and effective surface commotion patterns the world over. It has caught everything from bluegill to bonefish to dorado, although naturally it's most popular for species known to relish topwater lures. Here is the original Gurgler, along with numerous variations I've developed over the years—all proven fish-catchers and among the funnest flies you'll ever fish. Here as well are several other salt water floating flies that have proven their effectiveness over the years.
Here are some of the most innovative and effective flies you could ever show to these elite warm water gamefish.
Note: See the Northeast Gamefish and Surface Flies categories for many other patterns that work great for tarpon, snook, reds, and seatrout.
