Hexagenia Sparrow The Hexagenia Limbata mayfly, one of the largest mayflies in the world, hatches around the second or third week in April in many streams and rivers of the Midwest.

The Hexagenia Sparrow, tied on a #4 or #6 3xl hook, with its olive-tinged amber body and long, flowing pheasant fibers, imitates this nymph quite nicely and has accounted for many large trout among those who fish this fly regularly.
